Silver award for AWS Group recognises SC21 leadership position

One of the UK’s leading independent Electronic Manufacturing Solutions (EMS) providers, AWS Group, has been presented with the Society of British Aerospace Companies (SBAC’s) Silver Award for exceeding targets set by the Society in its SC21 (21st Century Supply Chain) change programme.

The IMRAK, VERAK and Image brands from APW, are internationally recognized and have become industry standard.  Surtech has distributed enclosure products since its formation in 1983.  Currently the company is committed to holding in stock, at any time, £200,000 of the 19in Imrak 1400 enclosure, and offers a full assembly and configuration service from its Andover base.

SC21 has been designed by the SBAC to accelerate the competitiveness of the UK’s aerospace and defence industry by raising the performance of its supply chains.  It has three levels: bronze, silver and gold.  AWS’ 12 months delivery performance to its sponsor, General Dynamics UK, was above 99%, and quality was measured at 248 defects per million opportunities (DPMO).  The company scored over 500 on its lean manufacturing and business excellence framework performance, and the combined assessment means that AWS has been assessed as meriting a Silver Award.  AWS has become the first company under SC21 to achieve this level – a truly significant achievement in less than 12 months.
