Power Integrations Introduces Low Component Count Off-Line LED Driver Circuit

San Jose, California, September 2005...Power Integrations, the leader in high-voltage integrated circuits for power conversion, announce the DI-92, the latest application of its innovative power conversion technology in a simple, ultra-low component count driver for off-line LED lighting. It utilizes one of the Company’s LinkSwitch-TN family of integrated circuits, LNK302, and requires only nine components to deliver a 40mA output at 0.5W. Accordingly, it is ideally suited for a variety of lighting applications in which extended life and low maintenance are important factors, such as emergency exit signs and nightlights.

Operating across the entire global range of ac input voltages, from 85 V to 265 V, the DI-92 is a constant-current LED driver circuit using a non-isolated buck-boost topology. With a low component count, the device is also extremely small, lightweight and inexpensive, costing 50 cents in unit quantities of 10K. It is also environmentally friendly, operating at up to 75 percent efficiency, well above the level achievable with passive designs, meets EMI specifications CISPR22B/EN55022B with a margin of more than 8dB, and is Class II safety-compliant.

The DI-92 is available for download from the Design Examples page of the Power Integrations website, www.powerint.com/appcircuits.htm
