New connector speeds
wire-to-board assembly

A new, low-profile RoHS-compliant connector from the Elco Europe Division of AVX, radically eases the connection of individual wires to a single row of contacts using IDC technology.

high density connectors A connector to ease and speed integration
Currently available as 2- and 3-way IDC connectors, the Series 9175 has a small PCB footprint of 5.0 x 2.5mm or 7.5 x 2.5mm, respectively, with a profile of only 3.45mm, and allows for quick, easy assembly. The part is first surface mounted to the PCB. Then, using a dedicated single-wire insertion hand tool, 26 or 28 AWG solid or stranded wires are inserted into the contact slot. This process cuts the insulation and enables the individual conductors of the wire to form a homogeneous joint.

The shape of the moulding forms a restraint to the wire when fully inserted in the contact. Contact material is phosphor bronze, with five re-terminations achievable for each individual contact. Operational features include a current rating of 1A continuous through all contacts at 25°C (ambient); voltage rating of 125V, delivering a minimum insulation resistance of 100MW; maximum termination resistance of 20mW; and operational temperature range of -40 to +80°C.

Coupled with their availability in tape and reel packaging, the ease and speed of assembly offered by the 9175 Series makes them ideally suited to connecting two or three wires between PCBs, in high volume consumer devices, such as speakers, buzzers, microphones and vibration mechanisms
