Independent Universal SMT Contacts replace traditional interfaces

A new series of independent Universal SMT Contacts announced by ITT Electronic Components, which provide electrical connections between a device and a PCB, includes a 1.3mm version that offers lowest profile currently available.

Manufactured as a single piece stamped product, incorporating pre-load and anti-lift features, the new Universal SMT Contact has been designed to replace traditional interfaces which require the contact to be custom designed into the component. It can be used to connect a number of device components in any direction and configuration using the same interface, significantly reducing qualification time.

The contacts are available in heights including the ultra-low profile 1.3mm version (minimum pitch 1.35mm); 1.8mm (mp 1.25mm); 2.5mm (mp 1.35mm); 3.5mm and 4mm (both with a minimum pitch of 1.45mm). A contact of just 0.9mm in height, is under development. Integral features afford contact protection, excellent frequency tolerance and low contact resistance; prevent solder wicking up the contact; and maintain the connection while tolerating shock and vibration. They are are fully WEEE and RoHS compliant.
