Aspherical glass lenses save space, raise performace

Photonic Products has added Panasonic’s range of aspherical glass lenses to its portfolio of optoelectronic components, which already includes high-performance plastic lenses, laser line generators, laser diode collimators and laser diode modules.

The equal optical characeristics achieved by Panasonic’s unique ‘One-Shot’ precision moulding method, coupled with short focal length and high numerical aperture, based upon exceptional aspherical designs, ensure a compact and lightweight lens. Devices using them may therefore be smaller, lighter, and with higher performance. Focal lengths range from 0.69 to 14.91mm; numerical apertures, from 0.097 to 0.65; and mechanical diameters, from 1.7 to 8.2mm.

The high quality of the materials used optimises lens designs for many applications, including pick-up lenses for optical drive devices; collimator lenses for laser diodes; coupling lenses for optical communication systms; and image formation lenses for sensors.
