Electronics companies seeking to protect heat-sensitive components
can now reduce surface temperatures by up to 64% using Zircotecs
new flexible ceramic heat shield material.
ZircoflexTM is believed to be the first ever flexible ceramic
heat shield material specifically designed for heat protection
in a wide range of electronic applications. As such, it is
set to revolutionise the use of ceramic materials.
Zircotecs Sales Director Peter Whyman comments Zircoflex
has the potential to transform the use of thermal management
solutions in which key components are at risk of heat damage.
Its lightweight and flexible nature means that it can be used
to protect devices including motherboards, power transformers,
power supply equipment, and even individual electronic parts
such as semiconductors.
Zircoflex is applied to the material surface of the host
as a robust and lightweight layer, and may reduce surface
temperatures by up 64%. Highly malleable, it can be cut and
installed by hand or machine, and is easily fixed in place
using mechanical fasteners or high temperature adhesives,
allowing it to be integrated directly into conventional production
or maintenance operations.
The natural brittleness of ceramic coatings has, until now,
limited their use with rigid substrates. ZircoFlex, however,
uses a new technology in which the ceramic material is sprayed
in the form of thousands of individual platelets
onto the surface of the foil, allowing it to be bent and manipulated
to suit different geometries. It can even be folded tightly
through 180o without damaging the thermal barrier.
