The Synor 1202 Cable Tester purchased
from Cropico by Control Systems Services of
Newport, to validate complex 6-position
rotary switch assemblies with 242 external
pin connections for the rail industry, has
proved to be a great success.
In selecting the components for the switch
automatic test system, the system design
house first chose the Synor unit because it
had sufficient configurability to meet initial
needs, as well as being adaptable for testing
other switch functions.
“Our customer has confirmed that the
automatic test system has vastly reduced
the time to test and repair their switches,”
says CSS managing director Neil Whatley,
who also said that the reports generated by
the comprehensive resistance analysis
software developed by CSS, have resulted
in high end-user confidence in switch
performance. “The repeatability of the
lengthy switch test procedures has been
greatly improved,” he adds. |
The test management software, developed
by CSS, gives step by step instructions to
the test station operator, that advise all
actions required during the switch test
procedure. The application also provides
statistical analysis of the results of multiple
tests.
During a demonstration of the Synor tester,
the end-user of the switches being tested
was so impressed that a duplicate system
was ordered for use by their maintenance
technicians. This means that in the future
the switches can quickly be eliminated or
identified as the source of a system
malfunction.
“The automatic test system specifically
identifies failed contacts,” Neil explains,
“therefore the end user’s maintenance
technicians are often able to repair the
switches, without the need to return them to
the manufacturer.”
